More to the story

In his book John recorded lots of other signs Jesus performed as well as unambiguous claims he made about being God. The responses to Jesus were many and varied (has that ever changed throughout history?) and you can see a whole spectrum of responses in chapter 7 (Mary and Joseph had other children after Jesus – look at the response of his brothers…). Often, people didn’t dispute that Jesus had performed a particular miracle – but instead they drew different conclusions about who that meant he was.

In John chapter 8 Jesus implied some people were wilfully deaf as they listened to his words but did not hear. In chapter 9 we move from the deaf to the blind. As you read about the events consider the possibility that Jesus used the man’s blindness as an illustration of something else. Who were really the blind people in this extraordinary episode? Have a read all of John chapter 9 and then consider these questions:

Jot down observations/questions you have about these verses that you’d like to discuss.
