Elaine Storkey is a philosopher, sociologist, and theologian who has held university posts at Stirling University, Scotland, Oxford University, Open University, Kings College London, and in the USA. She directed the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity for ten years. She has been a Senior Member of Newnham College, Cambridge since 2008 and is a Fellow of Aberystwyth University. She has lectured in Africa, Asia, Haiti, India, across Europe, North America, New Zealand and has received several international awards. In the Open University, Elaine co-authored the foundation course in Social Sciences and was long involved in courses on gender, work and relationships. As President of Tearfund, a Christian international relief and development agency, she pioneered gender policy changes over seventeen years. She has co-founded several organisations which address aspects of violence against women. She was a member of General Synod of the Church of England for twenty-eight years, serving on many Archbishops’ Commissions and Working Parties. She has a long involvement with the World Council of Churches, and has been the Cof E delegate to the Church of Scotland General Assembly. Her recent books include: Scars Across Humanity: Understanding and Overcoming Violence Against Women, (IVP 2018) Women in a Patriarchal World (SPCK 2020) and Meeting God in Matthew (SPCK 2022).
