Session Four – Chapter Five
Session Four – Chapter Five
In this session we will be looking at the various ways in which Christian’s experience truth as the hospitality of God.

In the last session of this series, we thought about the idea of truth regarding how we think of ourselves as Christians and how we relate to one another, especially when we find it hard to agree about the essentials of the Christian faith. The discussion worked from the basic premise that Christ is the catalyst, or focus point for the faith that we share, so the differences we may hold regarding truth itself always return us to him. The way the discussion was planned will have served as a reminder that religious truth is more than a set of propositions, or concrete proposals that can be assented to or dismissed as true or false. This led us to consider that truth is a living reality because it is of the Holy Spirit.

In this session we’ll be considering how that reality serves to enliven the Christian community. We’ll be looking at the various ways in which Christian’s experience truth as the hospitality of God.

Opening Conversation

How did the last session end for you as a group? If you are a new group, perhaps from different churchmanships or denominations, have you now got to know each other better? Or did the previous discussion only serve to it re-ignite the flames of old disputes, or raise ‘stumbling blocks’ regarding how you think the truth should be read, especially in regard to how you read scripture?
